The Home Office:
The Problem:
This home office was located in the client’s bedroom, but because of the clutter and disorganization the bedroom wasn’t the peaceful sanctuary the client wanted, and the office space wasn’t usable.
Before After Before After
To create a more organized office, we first removed all the items that did not belong in the home office or bedroom. Next, we used storage bins to hold all of the seldomly used items like extra printer cartridges and spare checkbooks. We also added storage above the media cabinet to hold spare printer paper, over-sized envelopes and extra notebooks. Then we added magazine holders in the cabinets to corral current magazines and books. Finally, we included a mail station in the cabinet for quick correspondence and bill payment.
Before After Before After
To help this client keep the paper coming into the house organized, we added an open filing box on top of the filing cabinet for pending action items. This included current bills and letters that needed to be answered quickly. By using an open box the client is able to see what actions are pending and can decide how to best use thier time. To finish the space we added drawer organizers to hold everyday items like pens, paperclips and stamps.
The Result:
A useful and peaceful space, that not only functions as a home office, but one that doesn’t detract from the master bedroom.
Bedroom Closet
The Problem:
The clients couldn’t walk into their “walk-in” closet in their master bedroom. The floor was cluttered with clothes, shoes and other items.
Before Before After
We started this closet project by clearing the clutter off the floor and shelves. A major problem in this closet was the lack of space for dirty clothes and the shoes piling up. Once the laundry basket was full, clothes began piling up on the floor. This not only made it difficult to get in the closet, but also made it difficult to see what laundry needed to be done. We solved this problem by adding multiple laundry baskets, one for lights, darks and reds. We also added a shoe rack on the floor and one of the upper shelves to keep all of the shoes in their place.
Before After Before After Before After
To help the clients find their clothes more quickly we bought matching hangers to keep all the clothes at the same height and to create a more visually pleasing space. Then we organized all the clothes by type (slacks, shirts, skirts, etc…). We also added plastic drawers to organize small items. These changes cleared up the floor space and provided more room on the closet shelves for extra toiletries for the adjacent bathroom.
The Result:
A true “walk-in” closet that made it easy for the clients to find what they had and enjoy their space.
The Pantry
The Problem:
This family of eight has a large pantry, but they could never find what they were looking for. Bulk purchases helped this family save money, but the extras ended up in a pile on the floor.
Before After
First, we removed everything from the pantry and threw out the expired items. Then we organized the items by category to see what kind of storage containers would make the pantry more user friendly. We added liners to the existing wire shelves and added extending shelves to stack cans and jars on. These multi-step shelves for canned goods make it possible to see every can and jar in the pantry.
Before After Before After
To help everyone in the family find what they are looking for we added open plastic bins for all the snack food, popcorn, and tea bags & coffee. These bins are perfect because they allow the shopper in the family to quickly see what they need and grant easy access to even the youngest member in the family. We also added plastic containers with lids to help keep the bulk pasta fresh. Finally, we added baskets on the top shelf for paper items and party supplies. This helped free up shelf space for food and kept the paper goods off the floor.
The Result:
A welcoming walk-in pantry full of delicious food that everyone can find!
